When I was younger so much, younger then today... :) I had a teacher how told me to imagine I'm holding an Orange in my hand while playing. beside the fact, that its a lovely metaphor (a metaphor which very popular among the piano teachers) she encouraged to play with curled fingers...
"curled fingers" is a bit fuzzy definition, so lets be more specific... If you will release you're arm
so it could fall down, you would see that your fingers are naturally curled - which is the natural position. But when I mean curled fingers I mean the "holding an Orange" position.
The problem with it, that it creates a stressful and mechanical movement
- which is NOT natural and NOT the correct way to play.
Unfortunately, the way that we play is mainly educated by the firs teacher that we ever had, and probably it will be the way that we will play for the rest of our lifes- unless we take some serious effort to change it!
Today, I believe that the correct position of the hand while playing should be in the real, natural, curled hand.
Tray it out!
